No 2: Limiting students to 4 Unit3/4 subjects is ridiculous. One slip up and they are stuffed. Good students can miss out on up to 10 marks for their ENTER (eg 10% of 5th and 6th subject); I'm sure this will impress parents! Doing a unit 3/4 subject in Yr 11 gives good students a challenge and prepares all students for the next year (eg exam prepn., revision, handling stress, etc)
No 1:I teach a 5 period day and it is much more relaxed; less student movement, less different classes to prepare for and less settling time.

Subject: [Offtopic] What would happen at your school?
Five scenarios, if possible could you briefly tell me what would happen at your school?
1. There is a suggestion that the daily organization be changed from 6 X 47.5 minute periods to 5 X 1 hour periods
2. There is a suggestion that Year 12 students only be allowed to enroll in 4 subjects (and they are not allowed to do a Unit 3/4 subject in Year 11)
3. Staff, students and parents consider that the school website is out of date and useless, there is no useful information on it, and a member of staff has provided an excellent prototype website which many staff and students feel will be an improvement, and this staff member has offered to be website manager. (If you want to check it out for yourself go to www.bentleighsc.vic.edu.au <http://www.bentleighsc.vic.edu.au/> )
4. Staff are limited to 100 MB internet, when it is used up they must email a purchase order to the principal to get another $10 credit (same for printing - $10 credit = 100 pages, and photocopying) the school ISP costs are currently $18,000 per year and another (DEECD approved) ISP provider offers a similar plan for around $7000 per year
5. There is a staff representative vacancy on the school council created by a staff member retiring, you express your interest to the principal but he appoints someone else to the position.
If I get some answers I will let you know what actually happened. This is just a sample - I could easily think of another 30 or 40, but this will do for now....
Thanks in anticipation
Cheers
Ros
