Yes, I have heard that too .. it is a challenging suggestion that there are plans to do away with paper reports for a progressive online assessment. Best thing about Ultranet that I have heard for a while!

>From what I heard, it much more than being about attaching a document or reporting on an uploaded file, it is more about creating an online VELS assessment, reflecting on the journey, not documenting the destination.

If we do some fancy collaborative work with wikispaces, build a classroom archive with Diigo, assemble a castle with Minecraft, collaborate on a shared document with GoogleApps, modell a satellite, perform a dance, compose a song, then also provide assessment feedback via Ultranet. Cool :-)

Interesting issue, with Moodle I provide feedback directly to students "Well done Abdul for your great satellite model." With Markbook, I am directed to provide feedback to parents "Abdul made a great looking satellite model." I wonder what will be our voice with Ultranet?

In stage 2 of the Ultranet you will be able to attach VELS outcomes to activities. This means students will get a VELS level when the activity is assessed. With Parent access they will be able to review the assessment and make comments. Eventually we will do away with paper reports and go to reporting in real time. VELS will stay with the student throughout the life of the student providing data for developmental assessment. Sure we can continue to use Moodle or any other useful technology but at the end of the day we will have to assess and report through the Ultranet.

ACU are also working through Moodle migration plans (as Monash Uni) .. the ball is rolling along.

I suspect that deciding between Moodle or Ultranet for 2011 may be pointless as they don't completely overlap and there is probably going to be room for this and more. Considering that there may be a political angle from our recent state election, we may expect further changes / cutbacks (sigh) ..

Who knows where this will take us in 5 or 10 years time o what becomes of this all.

Even just 10 years ago, Kevork and I pioneered using a different product called AUC (??)

We were told that all Catholic schools in Victoria were moving to the ICON (Ultranet rebadged) system, but most schools I have spoken to are sticking with Moodle at the moment.

Hi guys,

just had a chat to my local ultranet coach(John Scott -wimmera/grampians region) about doing a presentation at my school(non-state school...Catholic) and have also had the go-ahead for it from my Principal to do so.

My question is this...Do you guys know of, or have heard about, any parallels that could be drawn with the Ultranet system in comparison to the upcoming release of the SIMON system used by the CEO(Ballarat diocese). Just doin a little background research in prep for when 'Scotty' is calendered for a session.

I appreciate that it is based on a learning management system for interactive use by students/staff and parents alike. Upcoming releases of SIMON are apparently also being pointed in a similar direction.

I figured this could also be a PLN event in this region perhaps when a date is scheduled. My reasoning is that we have some new teachers here now and who knows, they may transition to a state school and can at least be familiar with this 'Ultranet' concept.

any thoughts or ideas you could chuck my way guys?

ta in advance..

KB.

I believe this will be available when stage two is fully implemented. I couldn't get it to work in stage one.
