If the folder cannot be accessed from outside, then the folder can't
be accessed from outside, irrespective of whether there are links to
it. The only solution is to somehow provide external access to the
folder, either by allowing direct access to the server (this can
usually be locked down), or via some kind of proxy solution like using
apache and samba described below. Or using a VPN for the whole thing -
this would be just like being inside the school.
