Perhaps we should move this discussion to the 12ITApps list so Mark
Kelly sees it ???

My kids are at McKinnon sand nothing from their end or mine but
apparently only a select group of parents were asked to participate
(according to the info on the ultranet site
http://www.education.vic.gov.au/management/ultranet/default.htm

There will be a FOSS roll marking/calendar scheme available later this
year go to www.schooltool.org I am hoping we can replace the incredibly
expensive DayMap with this next year. Combined with moodle it should do
it all - except the actual end of semester and interim reports - which
DEET is already controlling!!

As Phil Brown commented to me - imagine if DEET put just $10 mill into
making moodle what they want it to be! That would be $50 mill left over
- or one mill for 50 schools to be renovated! Or 50,000 laptops for
student use in schools - wow!!!!

Yeh but those guys NEED their porsches!!

Cheers
Ros

Looking at the attendees for some of the meetings lists the usual
suspects. Looks like Oracle wants a piece of the action.

Of course, nothing from the Open Source community could come close to
the wonderful solutions provided by Industry leaders like Microsoft and
Oracle. So why even consider it? I think it would be an interesting
activity to "follow the money" and see who stands to gain the most from
the $60M feeding trough. I am sure the work being done in countries such
as Spain, South America and Africa would not even be considered. But the
upside is some local IT companies are at least turning up for the
meetings, so maybe we'll see a few new Porches turning up at the South
Yarra coffee shops.

Any news from McKinnon College about how the system works? Be
fascinating to talk to some one who has actually used the system with
actual students!

Cheers
