[Moodle] MySql - reading dates and times

Here is a quick and dirty way to check on your Moodle usage. Go to the admin
view where you list all the participants. Click on the table heading to login
time. This should resort your list of users from the most recent login time.
To estimate the proportion of regular users, scroll back in time one month
and count the number of users (users per page x number of pages x 100 /
population). This definition is what we use for the mailing lists. The rest
are probably significant but incidental users.
Here are some stats for my college
Frequent users over the last week = 44% students and 46% staff
Regular users over the last month = 65% students and 72% staff
Scroll further back and you cover nearly all the students in the school.
Gets rubbery as you start bumping into last years cohort of students that
have left. Significantly, the two thirds population of our students probably
use moodle by a much smaller population of staff (perhaps 20%) that teach
more than one class. I suspect that the other staff just use some of the new
staff area features. In all, I am quite happy with this level of usage.
