This is cool, I was scrabbling about for an online diary system and plain
old forgot that there was one bundled with Moodle.

This just redirects users to the web page of upcoming events.

Clicking on the month name gives a monthly view of the dates, clicking on a
date shows what is happening on that date.

The green boxes are the site wide or school dates that are of public
interest for parents and students (public holidays, pupil free days, flag
days etc) My aide was excited about adding pictures using the HTML editor
and if you are quick, you will notice some of his handicraft for next week,
Christmas etc.

After logging in, users have an added bonus of seeing any course specific
dates. I created a course called 'Teacher' and organised for the office
secretary to add in all their important staff, faculty meeting dates and
details. Now when they login, staff will also see these on display, I don't
see why this couldn't be done for other groups although we will just start
with the one and see how we go. I notice that my students have the school
dates now displayed as green boxes amongst their assignment dates. Nice
touch and of course, they all jumped to looking for the pupil free dates and
sleeps until the next term break!

Office staff quickly picked up on the forum idea (I had made the teacher
course into a social forum and switched the forum settings to force all
users to be subscribed) This will be used to post an electronic version of
the daily bulletin to all the college staff.

I was delighted that our college AP has gotten into the stride of things and
is already using the 2006 section of calendar for school wide planning by
adding in important dates! Her thoughts are that by the time that we reach
the end of the year, the planning is over and her version kicks in. No
excuse when staff are planning dates for events and beats sharing about a
word doc as a master version.

Regards Roland
