That’s true and I felt since project management is now a key component in the course and it is also a major area of study I felt that Pert charts are appropriate Many organisations such as NASA use them for launches.

Tthese charts are a kind of codified visualisation for a project, an approximation for what could or has happened. After they get their mind around a Gantt chart, it is interesting to show students that the information can be displayed and analysed in a variety of ways such as with a PERT chart and that perhaps no one tool is the ‘best’ for every questions or management strategy. Kind of like looking at a landscape differently by changing the lens and filters on your camera.
A good analogy for this is that there is no one periodic table to display elements in chemistry, there are several variations and all are correct with each emphasising different things.
I need to verify this but I have heard that a road construction group relied on an interesting system based upon a daily helicopter camera rig flyover to document and track progress on the East Link freeway construction. Oddly enough,we do this as teachers by describing a wholistic student assessment consideration as a 'helicopter view’.
… Stand clear …

Greetings from China. Gantt charts are the only mandated tool, but students are free to use PERT charts.

Hi Vera
I think you’ll find that while you may choose to discuss PERT charts in your lessons around Project Management, you’ll find that the KK point in Unit 4 Outcome 2 (APS dot point 3) and the SAT outline on pg 38 of the new study explicitly state Gantt charts as the project management tool.
Maybe Paula can jump in and clarify the point?

HI everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knew if Pert charts are also appropriate as they are a project management tool.
Thankyou Vera
