[Year 12 IT Apps] CMS, kind of an answer.

Dear colleagues
Just to add to Margaret's comment, there will only be one publication - Advice for Teachers, and it will contain the usual material in the Advice section of the study design together with material that has previously existed in the Assessment handbook. This means that all advisory content will be housed together. Also, the performance descriptors for 2016 and beyond have been written in the form of a rubric so the content is read horizontally rather than vertically. The Advice for Teachers for Computing will come as a web resource.
Regards
Paula

Hi John
I am at one of the briefings and Paula has told us that the assessment handbook will come out term 3 this year.
We will also get some sample exam questions in term 4.
Cheers
Margaret Graham

Sorry for the cross-post.
Has the assessment handbook for the 2016 study design been released?
Does anyone have some advice on this?

Thanks for the info, Ben.
As I understand it, classroom constraints may well prevent kids' MMOS actually being put online.
The MMOS must, however, still be built to be suitable for a global audience.
Other unavoidable constraints may preclude the use of certain website features (e.g. login boxes or feedback forms that really work) and I have the understanding that these could be simulated as they currently can be in the prototype website.
In this way students can show an understanding of desirable site features without having to actually implement them under the restrictive 'walled garden' conditions that are imposed by a school network.
And a MMOS using static data would be fine. There is no indication anywhere that a MMOS needs to have dynamic data sources (e.g. linked databases).
(Actually - in SD - attaching databases to solutions has been stomped on by VCAA as being unnecessarily-complex and distracting to students' concentration on demonstrating key skills and knowledge.)
Cheers
Mark

Hi All,
Went to the information session last on the new study design. Asked about the use of CMS. It looks like you will have no issues using CMS for Unit 1 outcome 3, (which is good because they are a nice way for student to collaboratively create a website).
For informatics it becomes a matter of making sure that all key knowledge points and key skills can be covered. The issue that seems to be raised with the use of CMS is student being able to create the websites they have designed on paper. CMS seems to be seen as limiting your design option (I think).
Good news is not all CMS solutions are blogs and some of them are relatively powerful when it comes to giving you choice on how your site looks and they always give you the option to get access to the html code to make even more custom changes.
The cynic in me is thinking about how many students design a webpage to look similar to a template provided on Dreamweaver.
Essentially if the solution can hit all of the KK and KS you can probably use it. Don't take my word on that.
Oh and don't think I love CMS, I'm just looking for free alternatives. Now I'm off to look at eBooks and other digital publications that aren't websites but are still online.
Lastly, how online does the online solution have to be. Does the solution have to be potential online like a website saved on the local computer or do we need to be able to access the solution from another network. For those of you think about doing websites how are you going to get your students to host their work.
Cheers,
Ben.
