[Year 12 IT Apps] DLTV conference - DigiCon

I miss VITTA!

DLTV has been a huge disappointment! My year 10s were so excited about the ADVERTISED program “Work IT Out” program that they only just removed from their website. My kids were contacting DLTV since October last year – because November was the application cut-off date. Nothing happened! I got a lame email from them blaming the government for delays. Why ADVERTISE a program you don’t have to offer??

I won’t be paying for the school registration any longer since there appears to be no benefits to my teachers. They don’t run events for students like VITTA did. I don’t see the point any more. The conferences for new curriculum at the end of the year will probably be my last involvement. I get more support from the edulists!

It costs $70 to present for one day and
THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY dollars to present for two days?

Golly. That's real incentive to spend many hours preparing a presentation or two.

Memo to DLTV: I offered to present if a cancellation occurred and you needed someone to fill in. I withdraw that offer.

Well that's disgraceful.

I would think that a speaker should get a delicious supper, a munchy meal and bubbly evening fellowship for their trouble - which has probably been several hours of preparation (and that's conservative).

That's a bit disappointing...
Not quite = yes. Calling it "just chipping in" is a little patronising.

Not quite, speakers are just chipping in to pay for the delicious supper, munchy meals and the bubbly evening fellowship. They also get to attend the other sessions and contribute etc. Its was a very good deal and many still put their hand up to contribute.

Medicine has an interesting “no free lunch” group has some very controversial but politically correct things to say about freebies including free conference invites. When I read this, I thought of the many teachers I have seen (including myself) gathering up the free writing pads and pens. Ouch .. http://nofreelunch.org/news.htm

I agree Bill, it is never an easy decision for any group to charge speakers but it does keeps the cost down for those that do register. The program is quite full and worth glancing over on the DLTV website.

You guys are now charging the speakers $70 to present?

You have to be joking!

Thanks Paula, it is certainly a great chance for us all to brush up on the new VCE study design beyond a casual read whilst networking with other VCE IT teachers who are similarly planning the 2016 courses. I have enjoyed going over the show recordings too. Thank you for all your work with this and the DLTV office team for making this a focus at the conference.

Dear colleagues

Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria is holding its second conference on 25 and 26 July at Swinburne University of Technology. In addition to a range of streams focusing on Prep to year 10, there is a stream dedicated to VCE IT/Computing (both Friday and Saturday) and a stream for VCE Algorithmics (Friday only).

I would strongly recommend that you come along to this conference, particularly as the new study design is being introduced in 2016. Even if you attended an Implementation workshop this term (VCAA/DLTV program) you will have a chance to both broaden and deepen your knowledge of the study design at this conference. Also on Saturday there is a session focusing on past student performances in IT apps and Sof Dev, some of which is not typically available to the public.

Have a look at the program and register!
