[Year 12 IT Apps] smartphones used for learning

I was wondering if there are many secondary schools that permit (or encourage) students to bring and use their smartphones in the classroom. I am very interested in visiting a school or two that do this early next year and seeing how they are used.
We have introduced BYOD at our school as optional at all year levels. We have specified a suitable device as a tablet (iPad, Android or Windows 8) or a laptop (Windows or Mac) but have put a size restriction of a minimum of 23 cm diagonal screen. This therefore excludes devices such as iPad Minis, Galaxy Notes and smartphones.
Just would like to know if other schools deal with learning with phones.
