Hi all,
Thanks for your Post-mortem thus far, Mark.
I used the same logic as Joyce, thinking it was project-based (most of my kids answered that way, too) - but thought knowledge sharing made a lot of sense too. I'd be interested to hear the official line from VCAA and their rationale when they are done with their report. I agree that it was a tough opener. I agree with your (Mark's) frustrations about the ERD question, too - I came up with the same answer, but it wasn't a question that I felt tested what the kids had actually been told to prepare for in the study design. Common-sense makes it easy enough to answer, but common-sense would also suggest not asking questions where common-sense is the only resource at your disposal to answer it on the exam.
The rest of the paper felt easy to me. There were one of two questions where I couldn't figure out exactly what VCAA wanted in the answer, but generally I was pretty happy with the paper.
On a personal note: this is my last year teaching ITA. I've had to give it up after a couple of years of juggling 3 year 12 classes and decided next year I should hand over the IT to someone else.
A huge thank you to all who have been a tremendous support. Obviously the biggest thanks go to Mark Kelly for his excellent site and resources - He's probably had the biggest single impact of any classroom teacher on the whole state for any subject, and I certainly wouldn't have had half the success I have had without his help! But the rest of you are awesome as well - thanks for all of the insight and resources you've shared over the years. I wish the English edulist was this useful :)
Kind regards and best wishes to you all for the future,
Jackson Bates

Hi Mark
Thank you for sharing your answers, I have the following thoughts:
Question 1 answer is C reason being in the study design there are only three types of online communities social, work based or project based. All of which support knowledge sharing and/or colloboration. So I have discounted both collaboration and knowledge sharing as strictly speaking they are not types of online communities. This type of online community is obviously not social, so I am left with the project based option, which makes sense as the website is about the landscaping project. I could be way off base with my logic!
The rest of the questions I agree with your answers, though I really dislike questions 16 and 18.
Cheers
Joyce

I need to have a Bex and a good lie down* before embarking on section B.
That ERD issue has been bugging me for 3 years now...
Many thanks to the anonymous daemons, sprites and fairies who magically made the ITA paper appear before me. Salut!

My lot were generally quite happy about the exam. I had to groan (grimace, tear my remaining hair out etc.) at some who admitted to missing particular questions and gave a high five to the whoops of delight form those that did all the homework, practice questions and practice exams. The examination tip they admitted getting the most out of this year was a technique we called "brain dumping" where they annotated margin notes into the short answer section as soon as they could after reading. The advice they had to share was to sit down and do all the past and practice exams under exam conditions, then learn how to mark it like an examiner, using each stumble and error as powerful learning fodder.
Some were so keen at reading over their notes that they forgot to bring or eat any eat lunch. I had to 'raid' the canteen for food after lunch to keep them going. Good thing there were some old sausage rolls and hotdogs still there. A thank you to Mark for his humours notes that kept their spirits up, Rob for his presentation and helicopter view from Swinburne and my colleague Catherine Kneen who kept me on my toes with the odd prod.
Now, where did I put my marking book? Reports are due next week (sigh)
Regards Roland
