Hi all

Thanks Mike - I didn't read the ABC text! The original I saw was from
another site -
http://www.npr.org/blogs/pictureshow/2012/12/05/166587600/new-nasa-images-show-the-earths-electric-light-showand
didn't give any explanation. A few comments on that site now say
fires.

It was a "massive composite image were taken over nine days in April and 13
days in October", but it doesn't say when the Australian ones were taken.
