[Year 12 IT Apps] ICT Technical Support

We are a P - 12 school with 800 students, and about 80 staff.   We have four full time IT Technicians (two are ex-teachers that have retrained who are absolutely fabulous as they can see issues from both sides) and one part time technician equivalent to four days per week.  All have technical qualifications.

We have roughly 250 iPads at present with this increasing by another 80 next year (staff and all students in years 5 - 7, soon to be years 5 - 8 have their own iPad).  We also have three labs with 24 desktops and another with about 12 desktops.  One of the larger labs is being dismantled at the end of this year as we move to more wireless technology.  Currently we also have 10 laptop trolleys with 24 laptops each that float around the school as needed, and various desktops (about 5 - 6 in each room) scattered throughout the primary section of the school.  All staff have their own laptop too (as well as the iPad).

I believe that for the size of the school we are extremely well resourced with both technical and human resources but this school does make technology a priority in its planning.

Hi Jarrod,

We now have 3 IT guys full time.

1 looks after the technical side such as admin/network/security etc (he's been around 10+ years)
This year we've employed the other two who man a help desk that staff and student go to for IT help.

Next year, about 920 iPads, (about 460 more than this year),  3 computer rooms (29 in each),  about 10 CoWs with 15 laptops in each and about 80 staff laptops.

It's a lot to look after and they do a great job.

Sorry for the unrelated topic however I couldn't think of a more appropriate place for assistance with my question.

Im wondering what provision for ICT Technical Support schools currently have. By this I'm specifically referring to ;

  *   The status of the staff member/s involved in the job? Are they a full time technician or part teacher role
  *   The number of machines they service and support throughout the school
Any help would be appreciated
