Glad to hear that Horsham is OK. But still problems for other areas in the state. I have In-laws in the Swan Hill - Mildura area.

Look forward to updates from any of you in the flood affected areas.

  Hi all again,

Its now Friday and appears that Horsham is getting back to business as usual. The waters are now back in the river again where they should be.

On the nervous side though, the residents downstream at Dimboola are now battling the same probs. Warracknabeal too. Havent heard of todays status of those two towns so hope their levies etc all held.

The oddest sight I saw all week was of some ducks swimming outside a motel opposite the VicRoads office here in town in I estimate about 75cm of water(in Town!). And no...thats not in a pond..its on the road! I havent heard of anyone losing the plot and generally everyone was quite upbeat during the flood period...and chipped in where they could. Community spirit in action!

Hope my updates have been useful to those who commented back and also to those who are browsers here.

Back to work in a week...it had to end soon.

  cya folks for now..

  Kent.

  Hi all,

first, my sympathies and best wishes for speedy recovery to our colleagues and their students and families in QLD and also to those here in Vic affected by the recent oversupply of the wet stuff!

Here in Horsham, we are pretty much circled by the stuff at present with the western hwy at Great Western and Beaufort both flooded so avoid them right now if travelling Melb to Adelaide or Vise-versa! Go North via Murray Valley hwy..echuca etc or south via Princes Hwy. They're both longer but not flooded. I heard today that the Hamilton-Horsham rd also was flooded, and Cavendish was too. Also heard Murtoa had some flooding issues so if that affects you, phone ahead to check first.

Here, Wimmera river is at the 2.25m mark at the weir in town(@6.00pm tonight) and basically thats with all weir gates open ...lets just say scary for now. The marker I looked at only goes to 3.5m!!

One staffer is already moving his stuff as water is in his back yard already!

I'm nervous but ok just now, feeling comfortable I'll be ok but there is that element of doubt! The Wimmera river is higher now than the flooding recently on the news. Peak levels expected next few days, one local has marked a tree on the bike path with a 'panic' level(chalk marks and a plastic marker!).

So folks, if u have any friends travelling up here, recommend you put the travel off for a short time...emergency services are already flat out here and doing fabbo work. The towns and region are abuzz and people are pulling together helping each other out where possible.

So, if you must come to this area, bring ya floaties or a unimog. Hwy closed from Stawell to Horsham at present. Halls gap is evacuated...Local water supplies and sewerage pump stations are working at max levels as water has infiltrated them and causing probs locally. Oh, and that huge Koala on the highway(filmed with Hoges recently) is also flooded so forget that spot just now..

  Today..no rain thank god!

  Tomorrow? Monday?

Sorry to put this on the list folks but many of u may read it and have a friend in the area or travelling up here. If you must travel up here, keep an ear to the local radio for updates..it may save your life.

Generally, only travel up here if URGENT and folks, please dont drive through water unless in a powered boat, its not worth the risk or hassle to be pulled out.

Call your relatives or friends up here and say gday and just check on em to see if alls well, they'll love the call.

  Stay safe folks..

  Kent.
