Hi,

I used MYSQL for the U3O1 this year.

I used the MYSQL Workbench as the GUI.

Any questions please ask.

Hi,

I just rang up Ed Soft after Seeing Mark's message and they do not do
concurrent pricing any longer.

They sell on volume. For example I was quoted 25 - 45(?) the price is
$240AUD per user. $6k!

Not great for a class of 25 unfortunately. So either Access or some other
cheaper option, perhaps PHP/MySQL may be the go. Has anyone used PHP/MySQL
for this outcome?

Cheers

George

Hi James. I use Filemaker. I find it pretty easy to learn and use, and
there's a passionate support community. Scripting can be both very powerful
and simple. I use it to run our reporting system... it's load-tolerant and
easily networkable (even without using Filemaker Server). It's simple to put
databases online too.

With Filemaker Advanced you can create executable versions of the database
that can be distributed and run without users having to install Filemaker
itself.

Transitioning from Access will involve a few 'cultural' changes (e.g. the
concept of found and omitted records, calculated fields being defined along
with the other fields, layouts, portals to show related records from other
tables).

It's available on the Software 4 Education program (state govt schools) for
$99 per licence (and you only need to buy one licence for each concurrent
user, not one licence per PC installation.)

Oh, and it now does graphs.

Regards
Mark

Good Morning,

Require your thoughts on database software. In the past our college was PC
and we have shifted to a Mac system. We have thought about dual booting
machines and we could then re use our existing Access software. Is any body
using Filemaker software for IT Apps? What are the plus/minus concepts? Is
it difficult to adapt etc? Thanks in anticipation for your thoughts and
experiences.

cheers
