We use the wikipedia version, it is at times a little OTT for what we really
need but at least useful

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabyte
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabit

Not sure exactly what you are after :-)

Simple explanation is that

  *   1 byte = 8 bits
  *   So 1 Megabyte = 8 Megabits
  * That may be file size or
  * It may be file transfer speed per second

Now Mega?

  *   Used to be that 1 Kilobyte was 1024 bytes (Note 1024 = 2^10)
  *   and 1 Megabyte was 1024 Kilobytes
  *   BUT
  *   Recently manufacturers have moved to 1 Kilobyte = 1,000 bytes, 1
Megabyte = 1,000 Kilobytes  and 1 Gigabyte = 1,000 Megabytes

Does anyone know of a good exercise or explanation online that is not too
confusing?
Thank you
