[Year 12 IT Apps] Keyboard Swipe and Security

Actually in Jackson's example although he 'swipes' his fingers across the keys it is still identifying him by his password (ASDFGHJKL), not a physical characteristic unique to himself, so it wouldn't be classed as biometric. Anyone who 'swiped' his keyboard in the correct sequence could get in regardless of their fingerprint!

Hi Jaskson,
I hate to correct you, but that is a biometric swipe, NOT a keyboard
swipe.
At Mt Baw Baw we use keyboard swipe (magnetic Cards) for login into our
Point of Sale system. Each user is issued with a magnetic card, this is
encoded with the users ID. With this we can authenticate their staff
billing account, login to the system as a user, and validate their
discounts.
The card itself looks like a credit card.
Cheers

I have seen a pupil using a keyboard swipe to access password protected
sites, software and files.
He literally 'swipes' his finger across the home row keys on a qwerty
keyboard.
His password is: ASDFGHJKL;'[enter]
And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is a keyboard swipe.
(The kid is not in my IT class, so I take no personal responsibility for
his stoopid password...I did have a chat with him when I saw him do it,
though)

Jackson Bates
