[Year 12 IT Apps] developing Games for the iPhone and iPod Touch

Hi Cameron, 

I do sympathise - and that is not just lip service!  We (at VITTA) are
between a rock and a hard place on this one - and where we successfully
lobby DEECD (and others) to sponsor / support our programs - this reduces
the cost for teachers.  Likewise, DEECD / schools need to be resourced with
funds and time to undertake PD.  VITTA receives minimal support from the
department (and others) - most of this evident in programs like ICT
Achievers, ICT week / careers expo, VCAA VCE roadshow, the ACS student
conference, student competitions (all of which are free to teachers and
students across the state - and in some cases nationally).

I think that there is also a lack of appreciation / understanding in regards
to the IT discipline itself - and the demands that changing software (and
the sheer number of skills required) places on teachers.  

But increasingly this has been very difficult - and the result will be that
one day teachers won't have any opportunities to undertake PD (which is
almost the situation now) and subject associations like VITTA will no longer
exist.

I will investigate if we can run some single sessions on the iPhone / iPad -
rather than the full 10 week course, which I think many of you may be quite
interested in.

Hi Adrian,

It doesn't matter what the cost breakdowns are. I can't make $100 per year
for pd stretch to $750, regardless of the value for money or the hourly
rate.

I have well and truly used up my goodwill with admin by doing the Markbook
Course which is essential to school operations, not just a whim that I might
be interested in.

I am well aware that VITTA etc are increasingly aware of the cost of
sessions and resources and I hope you can reassure me that as a
representative professional body VITTA are raising these issues on our
behalf to DEECD and the lamentable VIT.

with each session being 2 hours duration - so the cost is $75 per day or
$32.50 per hour.  As much as possible, we do try to run events with the
smallest possible cost - however, at the same time, VITTA (like every other
organisation) needs to remain viable.
