Re: [Year 12 IT Apps] sac2
Hi George!

No, I am not saying I won't provide Andrew with one of my SACs.

As I said in my my last email, I am now retired from full time teaching and any SACs I have produced/used are related to previous study designs and would now be inappropriate.

These were left at the last school where I was teaching IT for use by the incoming teacher. If I had anything current then I would be happy to share.

Which makes me ask - what resources have been left for you at University High by the previous IT teacher(s)?

Obviously any VITTA or other commercial SACs cannot be distributed via the list because of copyright issues. Not sure how this relates to government versus private schools?

What I was saying to Andrew was not to stress out about the SAC. He has a couple of examples that he can reshape to fit his students and the software they are using.

So, George, get one or two example SACs, modify to suit your students and software and do your own thing.

With all due respect, what you're effectively saying is that after all your experience you wont provide Andrew with one of your SACs? Or one of the SACs that you may have gotten from someone else in the past and successfully used in your class?
I would give you one of mine if I had one Andrew but I am in the same boat as other first year ITA teachers. It seems to me that SACs that others have used successfully in the past or indeed are using currently are few and far between. Not any on the VITTA unless you're doing the Software SAC, heaps of those!

The big question is why? I would have thought that by now there would/should be plenty. How many ITA teachers are there out there?

If you don't mind Andrew, I wouldn't mind looking at the ones you have.

  Thanks in advance.

    Hi Andrew!

We've all been down the same road. First time teaching the subject. Not sure exactly what the study design means! Am I doing the right thing? What help can I get? Where can I get it?

That is where the ITApps list really helps. You can ask for help and usually get it.

I was teaching IT when the VCE started. We had CATs - and now SACs. Those of us teaching at that time had to develop our own CATs and SACs - especially in non-metropolitan schools, where I was teaching at that time, as we had no local support. The whole Edulists did not exist and there were no commercially available resources. I am now retired from full time teaching.

So what am I saying to you?

Don't agonise too much about this SAC. You have two examples already - so, unless you are not happy with either of them, go with one of those. Modify of course to suit your students and the software you and they are using.

The SAC has to allow students to demonstrate the required skills- see the VCAA Assessment Handbook for ITApps at http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/infotech/InfoTechHB_2007.doc <http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/infotech/InfoTechHB_2007.doc>

Then really all you have to do is rank the students in order of their ability to satisfy the requirements for the SAC. The moderation of the internal assessments via the exam marks takes care of assessment differences between schools/teachers.

    Good luck with SAC 2
