I have just come across a YouTube user by the name of thenewboston that has a series on iPhone App development - that might be a good starting point while you wait for an education-focussed PD in Victoria.

He is incredibly prolific, with nearly 1000 short tutorials about a wide range of IT issues, ranging from building a computer to programming in C++, Java, and Python. He has playlists of 30-40 videos on each topic, so he certainly provides good detail.

I've just started skimming the surface (he's teaching me Python atm), but I think this could be an excellent resource for IT teachers wanting to expand their knowledge (or the kids we teach)
