If your looking at doing some sort of new initiative thingy why not look
at getting you class into the Ultranet early and start using the
benefits of this 'wonderful' new toy, simalarities have been drawn
between it and facebook and it is completely not social as it is all
school based. They'll have to learn it next year any way!!!

I wouldn't be using Facebook at all in class, to describe the privacy
issues around it as a minefield when used with your students would be a
gross understatement and your chances of survival probably better.
/Really/ just don't use it. If you want a social network use a Ning, the
basic one is 3 bucks a month and you have a good deal of control over
what goes on and how it goes on...a much better solution.
Like most schools we already have enough difficulties keeping up with
cyber bullying and safety as a third party let alone (heaven helps us)
when directly involved and taking responsibility for the actions of the
users.
The best strategy for use of Facebook in class is to take two aspirin
and have a cup of tea and a lie down....it will pass.

Brett's idea of a Ning is a good one. Good contributions can be made;
blogs easily done; subscription lists can be controlled. And you can
manage the Ning yourself. If cyberbullying occurs, you as manager can
isolate the comments and find the writer.
