The Dreamspark site is generating certificate errors which is a security
issue. I'm not sure I would want to enter personal or business details on an
insecure site.

Apologies if this has been made known to the list before but Microsoft is
offering free software to students/teachers through Dreamspark. Some of the
software is readily available anyway but there is some that's not, in
particular, game studio and expression. There is also heaps of training
videos and certifications etc.
We asked for 50 licences and got them sent to us instantly. Check it out,
hope its of use to someone

Cheers

Speaking of movies, I decided to try out the AtomicLearning series of flash
based video tutorials. Their collection is impressive, covering a lot of the
standard software stock but I spotted a huge swag of FLOSS or open-source
software tutorials that we use at our school including OpenOffice, Moodle,
Gimp and more. I was able to configure to directly launch / login these
from Moodle :-)
Rather than ye olde commercial stuff that often gets repacked from the USA
and pushed on Austrlalian schools, this Oz/UK based group seems to have
fresher content with accents that are familiar and easier to understand for
our ESL students. My suspicition is that they employ teachers to assemble
the lesson plans and I think I have spotted an Australian amongst the team.

They offer a free demo subscription that is worth asking for.

Somebody asked offlist about a link to the 30 day evaluation subscription. I
have just got permission to share it on this list.

If you try this, I suggest that you do what I did. Find a unit of work that
runs for about a month and then give it a decent thrashing in the classroom
to check out understanding / bandwidth issues.

In preparation for Unit 3 Outcome 2 I'm trying to develop very
structured criteria for marking the actual building of the prototype
website. I find this, development section, the hardest section on any
assessment task to justify to my students where and why they received
(or didn't receive) marks. I'm currently marking a commercially acquired
practice assessment task - where "X" marks for development have been
allocated, but only general advice on how to allocate them is given in
the solutions. I realise some marks can be straight forward - for
example, hyperlinks working, etc, but just wondering if anyone has any
more specific guidance on how this should be address.
Anthony
