[Year 12 IT Apps] digital portfolios in the primary area

Dear Maggie

At my school Years 7 and 8 work in Learning Neighbourhoods of about 100+
students. At the end of each semester students do a Student Led
Presentation(SLPs) for their parents. This is pretty much a showcase of
their learning throughout the semester. In my Y7 NH students used their
digital portfolios for this presentation.

 

I provided them with a template created in Dreamweaver. The students
filled the pages with their information for each subjects and
hyperlinked to samples of work such as drawings, PPT slides, Movie
clips, music, photos etc.

At the SLPs their portfolios were projected on the electronic whiteboard
and students showed their work to their parents in the presence of their
mentor teachers. I asked for their permission to be present at some of
these as well.

 

Creation of DPs is a good way of meeting  a lot of VELS since ICT has
only 3 periods in a 10 day cycle. The students enjoyed working on DP's
and learnt a great deal.
