ACEC'08 Update
Dear Colleague
As the holiday memories fade turn your thoughts to the future and the
opportunities on offer at ACEC'08. Lots has been happening since the
last update:
Digital Education Revolution (DER)
Given the significance of the new Government DER policy ACEC'08 has
invited Julia Gillard to open the conference.
Trade Display Brochure
The Trade Display Brochure is now on the website (under Trade
Exhibition) for downloading. It contains all the exhibition details,
satchel insert information, other sponsorship opportunities and a
booking form.
Keynote Speakers
ACEC'08 is pleased to announce the third keynote speaker is Dr
Matthew Rimmer. The other keynote speakers are Keith Krueger (CEO of
COSN - www.cosn.org) and Liz Murphy
(http://researchandmedia.ning.com/profile/lmurphy).
Dr Rimmer is a senior lecturer and the director of Higher Degree
Research at the ANU College of Law
(http://law.anu.edu.au/scripts/StaffDetails.asp?StaffID=238), and an
associate director of the Australian Centre for Intellectual Property
in Agriculture (ACIPA). He is a member of the Copyright and
Intellectual Property Advisory Group of the Australian Library and
Information Association, and a director of the Australian Digital
Alliance. He is also a regular media commentator on intellectual
property.
Conference Papers
The closing date for the submission of abstracts for refereed papers
has now passed. In excess of 80 high quality abstracts have been
received and will undergo the refereeing process. Proposals for other
papers (non-refereed papers, workshops, panels and symposia) can
still be submitted up until February 29. Details are in the
Presenter's Area of the conference website - www.acec2008.info
Registration Brochure
The finishing touches are happening with an expected release date
early February. Also details of the pre-conference workshops will be
released at this time.
Testing and Tagging of Electrical Equipment
The National Convention Centre have advised that all portable
appliances (including laptops, data projectors, etc) brought into the
conference venue must have been tested and tagged as per Australian
Standard AS/NZS 3760:2003 (www.electricaltagging.info).
