more pay?

not the rudd revolution

but the pearson revolution supports this concept - see you in Cape York
Kent for an extra $50K per year

"Teach for Australia Fellows. Experienced teachers who have an
exceptional track record in delivering results would be recruited as
Teach for Australia Fellows and would receive an annual $50,000
fellowship (in addition to the usual salary package) once placed in a
remote school. The fellowship would be contingent on the teacher
regularly assessing student's literacy and numeracy performance and
ensuring that students are progressing against objective measures in
these areas. A teacher who is not delivering would not have their
Fellowship renewed."

hmmm, thanks for that insight Bill.
So where's my(our) pay rise? (couldn't resist!) After all, isnt part
of the 'revolution' to invest in the teachers too...or are we just the
vehicle for politicians to sound important like they are doing
something, while we genuinely are?
I have no position of leadership (ie not a 'Leading Teacher' level) yet
I work my butt off to help these kids get off to a good start, and yet
my pay this year is the same as it was last year being at the top of the
levels now.(in real terms I am now losing money!).

I will say this much.. the teachers here that are on the 'next level' (I
assume here..) look like they work their butts off, as do all staff here
so one wonders if the kids at times appreciate how caring all staff are
that work for their behalf. (I am generalising but genuinely feel we all
deserve more in comparison to wages in professional and some
semi-professional occupations.)
I also just overheard that first year staff now kick off at $50k for
first year...wow!

       Delivering a Digital Education Revolution

The Minister for Education has today written to all Australian
secondary
school principals inviting their participation in the Rudd
Government's $1
       billion Digital Education Revolution.

The Digital Education Revolution will dramatically change
classroom
education by ensuring that all students in years 9 to 12 have
access to
       information and communication technology.

The Rudd Government believes that every Australian child deserves
a world
       class education.

To be able to compete globally, Australia needs a world class
education
       system.

This includes investing in our school infrastructure including
computers
in schools and trade training centres, investing in our teachers
and
       establishing a national curriculum.

The first $100 million of the National Secondary School Computer
Fund will
be directed to the schools most in need by June 2008.

The Rudd Government will also invest $100 million over four years
as a
contribution to the provision of high-speed fibre-to-the-premises
       broadband connections to schools.

To identify the needy schools a preliminary audit is being
undertaken by
state and territory government education departments, the
Associations of
Independent Schools and the Catholic Education Offices.

The audit will identify the existing number of computers in each
school to
facilitate the commencement of the application process for the
neediest
schools in early March, with applications closing in early April
2008.

Applications for the second round will be open to all Australian
secondary
       schools in July 2008.

The Minister encourages all secondary schools to participate in
the survey
and to apply for funding when the application processes open.

Further information on the Digital Education Revolution,
including the
National Secondary School Computer Fund, is available at:
