[Year 12 IT Apps] Answers...

Has anyone done any surveys or empirical analysis of their situation? I
did one several years ago when numbers in Physics were dropping and the
results were very useful for doing some sly re-structuring in the
earlier years. Numbers crept up a bit after that. We set out to either
confirm or repudiate the here-say and anecdotal evidence that we thought
were the reasons with facts. Some turned out to be true - like a VCE
coordinator who was quietly filling her own subject area with "waverers"
and actively counseling students into chem and out of physics if uni
pre-requisites were not an issue. (grrr)
Other high rating factors we learnt were:
1) The mis-conceptions about the subject and what it involved - we had
to sell the subject better and couldn't rely on many students to find it
interesting in its own right.
2) Parental influence on what was "important"
3) Uni Pre-requisites
and the biggest:
4) The students Yr 10 experience.
Boy did we re-jig the Yr 10 course. Threw out all the "you need this for
VCE" stuff and concentrated on having fun instead.
Has anyone else done similar surveys regarding IT?
