Dear Kent and colleagues

In term 2008, a coursework assessment report will be published on the
VCAA website for unit 3 (and hopefully unit 4 - or that will come a
little later), outlining the strengths and weaknesses of the tasks
presented in the audit process. The same will apply for Software
development, and to any other study which is in its first of
implementing a reaccredited study, such as Accounting.

In addition, I am happy to provide some more details about Outcome 2
(which was the topic of conversation with Kent), however, I will post
them after the VITTA conference.

Hi Paula,

Just a thought, following your comments to me about the audit outcome
for my tasks, perhaps we 'listers' could benefit from a summary of
shortcomings and strengths as highlighted by the panel looking at the
tasks done/submitted for audit, during this year. I know I gained some
handy ideas from our phone conversation, maybe if permissable, you could
share some of the key features we discussed on the phone. I personally,
have no probs  if it means we can all make better our tasks for next
year and after..

Feel free to contact my email below with a follow up if you like. 

Oh, by the way, I forgot to ask you if it would be possible for you to
email me anyway with a summary of the points we discussed over the phone
wrt my submitted materials so I wouldn't forget any of the key points. I
made some notes but my memory has never been one of my strengths.

Again, thanks for the feedback, it created a good level of thought on my
tasks for me.

I am glad that I wasnt 'too far' off the mark generally. The winners
will definitely be my pupils next year!

(Hey, they are winners this year too!  They all hung in there to the
end...)

Fully agree Stephen

The exercise was done due to a query whether we could create numbers
with zero at the front of a phone number using the number data type
format.

It does have its limitations as you point out and one would have to
seriously consider how the data would be used in the future before
"building them into the file formatting".

It also supports our original argument for MC q15 that the data type
must be text for phone numbers AND for postcodes if we are to include
ALL Australian postcodes (considering NT postcodes begin with zero).

Postcodes are used by Australia Post to identify postal districts in
Australia.  The NT system is organised such that:
The numbering follows a broadly north-south pattern;
Except in Darwin's suburban area, the final digit indicates:
0 - major centre (Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs,
Nhulunbuy)
1 - PO box
2 - region surrounding major centre
3-9 - other towns in district
Historically NT codes were in the 5750-5799 range, with a similar
organisation except that it followed a south-north pattern, with Darwin
being 5790, now it is 0800. The move to the new range occurred in the
early 1990s.
