Not quite the point I was trying to make Mark!
I don't really care about your "refleact" or your "claculations" - although I did like your definition of "refleact".
Given my correction to my email - validation again!
"
Sorry I should have said
"So validation does not ensure that inaccurate data does not get into a system, it only tries to do so.""
I was only trying to make the point that we use various validation techniques, but they can never ensure that the info in the system is correct. They can only try to minimise the likelihood of incorrect info.

A claculation is the sound made when students try to do duck mental arithmetic and rely on their claculators.

Now we have to add "claculations" to "refleact" as items that passed through a data validation system. So validation does not ensure that inaccurate data gets into a system, it only tries to do so.

It prevents them being used as a number in claculations etc.

When there are soft brackets and spaces, it must be text since text is
alphanumeric.
Why no numbers for postcodes? 4 chars, limited range, all number.

I have a beef about this topic.
Some years ago I attended an advanced Access three day course to get my
head around this database program.
We were told in no uncertain way, that one should NOT use number as a
data type for phone numbers or postcodes etc. In fact it should only be
used when you intend doing mathematical calculations with it's contained
data further down the track.
Therefore, I choose A for Qu 15 (Part A), but in doing so remember one
or more of the VITTA practice ITA exams that indicated it should be
number.
What do others think?
