[Year 12 IT Apps] U3-O2 data

Hi Litsa

I give my students the data and images required to complete the task. If they were designing a web site for an organisation the organisation would generally provide the required data and images required, so I try to emulate that.

Their task is to design the protoype web site, not to invent the data and try to locate appropriate images - for some students this would be a major distraction and they would lose focus on the main task - create the web site. It also helps to prevent too much time being wasted on the internet, and avoids the oneupsmanship some try to achive with that elusive image. Those who do not surf the web regularly are not as disadvantaged either.

I give students more than enough, some may say too much, data and images to enable them to choose those that fitted in with their design. In designing their website they can decide which, and how many, images to use and what data, out of the data provided, to include in their web site, and how to design their web site around these choices they have made. With the range provided, it allows each student to come up with their own design and not have their site look similar to another student.

Other than provide the scenario, do we also need to provide the data to be used in the site?
For example, if the students set up a shell with working links and the space for the virtual teams, do they need to have actual information. I think yes, but I'm just checking before I write up the case study.

  Thank-you kindly.
