[Year 12 IT Apps] Dreamweaver & U3 O2 thanks

It hasn't been a lot of fun for students who have not had any database
experience in the earlier years either. And now they are facing the
creation of websites, a task many have not done either.
So it is also the young "pups" who are finding it a real challenge too.
Particularly when the network goes down and there is difficulty with Access
files.
While I support the idea of some more rigour, it does put many students who
have no experience of databases, which is all but 3 students from 2 classes,
and little experience in creating websites, all but 5 students, at a great
disadvantage. Toss in project management and virtual teams and some have
walked rather than stand and tear their hair out. I have noticed that
students who are absent for illness or other reasons find greater difficulty
in catching up this year as we tend to be learning more skills and
processes. Weaker students who tend to struggle are taking more time off
and hence the prolem is exacerbated.
Unfortunately, many students we attract at RMIT for Units 3 & 4 have not had
experience with Units 1 & 2 IT or with computers further down in the
schools.
Will really need to review the course and materials offered for 2008 so we
can ensure greater success and at least retain most students to at least
gain their 'S'.
I only wish I was able to introduce some database to them last year, however
they were not in the school then.
It has left little time for pursuing effective theory when trying to help
students pick up the pieces.
Musings and reflections of another old dog trying to teach this as well as
pursue those other requrements of the system.
