[Year 12 IT Apps] Where is our moderator?

Hi Andrew,
I am here.
Actually Mark and Keith are moderators of the Itapps list.
One of the strengths of the mailings lists is that there is a forum for an honest expression of feelings within appropriate professional language standards.
Mark's contribution to the lists is legendary and Kent has also made many contributions.
The problem is in the language used during the exchange of emails and our sensitivity meters.
One of our collective duties is to nurture each other's use of this forum.
Leadership is not about picking one side, but bringing the sides together.
Sometimes we hold beliefs and make assumptions that can be from any perspective ( philosophical , financial, regional ) .
Eg. " Philosophically, he is not going to pay for resources that he can get a hold of in other ways. I think he should pay for it"
" City schools have more money than country schools "
" City people do not appreciate the struggle of country schools and their communities in providing an education to their students"
" People should only use open source software as it aligns with my philosophy of software should be free . I will take every opportunity to attack commercial software ... "
No doubt you can add a few to the above list.
My point is that we need to allow some slack for these different perspectives without necessarily overreacting.
Eg. Thanks for the suggestions - I appreciate it takes time to put together this advice - but do you have any idea of other resources that fit criterion X , Y or Z.........
We don't need to debate whether intellectual property should have a monetary value in some or many cases.
We do share on these lists and offer most things for free but there are other resources that are commercial. I have written some, as have many others.
There is no problem in offering a commercial solution/resource in the context of a thread unless the request was more specific eg. free resources.
I do sense that sometimes our sensitivity meters can be set to higher levels than at other times. I have done it, as I am sure many of you will also recall doing it.
Kent , you have written a wonderful message from the heart clearly articulating that it is time to turn this into a positive and that takes courage especially publicly.
Could everyone else please also exercise some magnanimity and remember we are here to help each other, including how best to communicate with each other on this forum.
Those who simply want to take a swipe at Kent will be breaking netiquette rules of this forum :
1. seek to inform, question and clarify
2. not intend to harm
3. avoid unprofessional language ( www.edulists.com.au/netiquette.htm )
Let's move on ........
Keep well

Where is Kevork ? We need you to inject a dose of your reasonableness
and quash the thread
Kent used all caps, ok, Mark got upset, ok, Mark emailed Kent - forgot
to do it off list, ok
Is there any need for heaps of emails?
There is no-one on this list who does not respect the effort put in by
everyone who actually sends an email to the list, let alone contributes.
Mark and Keith would have to be the most prolific contributors.
I know when I used to teach the subject that I used a lot of their ideas
and was very grateful.
Perhaps we all realize that and we can let the matter drop.
No doubt Kent and Mark can communicate off the list and the rest of us
do not really need to be involved. If you want to send Mark an email of
support then do it off the list. Personalised messages are always nicer
anyway.

The 'just posted' comment from Bill Turner is better at expressing the
point I was making so please, the rest of you, POINT MADE and I feel
lousy about it already so enough.
I do agree that mark does a ship load of good in this subject and I am
the last to make negative comments about him and his efforts.

Hi Bill.
My point was that I have NO commercial interest in Greg Bowden's
resources. I just think it's a jolly good teaching tool.
And the stuff in which I _do_ have a commercial interest I would never
flog in this venue.
