[Year 12 IT Apps] ITA study design query

I don't teach ITA this year, but I would interpret this to mean testing
of the disaster recovery plans, similar to the way we test evacuation
procedures.
We hear that there are lots of organisations without well defined DRP's,
but there are just as many stories of places who do have well defined
DRP's that are not regularly tested, and when the crunch comes, they
break down for a whole range of reasons.

Subject: [Year 12 IT Apps] ITA study design query

Spring is in the air and a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts
of the ITA study design.

ITA Key Knowledge Unit 4 Outcome 2 Dotpoint 5 is "Disaster recovery
strategies, including testing."

I've been wondering how testing can help one recover from disaster.
Sure it can help _prevent_ disaster, but that's not "recovery".

How does testing help after the disaster has struck??

Any ideas?
