[Year 12 IT Apps] YouTube down the tubes?

I believe that, left to their own devices, students will waste a lot of time and our download quota on Youtube. So we have it blocked for most students. Our software (Web Marshal) enables us to allow access for particular groups at particular times so that teachers can utilise the educational value as appropriate. For example all of our VCE Media students have unrestricted access to YouTube. When ever any other teachers need access they let me or our techies know. It is quite simple to allow access to particular groups.

Can I take up an issue with YouTube.
Our admin is looking to ban YouTube on the basis that "all other
schools" already have banned it and therefore our students are at risk
in ways other students are not.
Would appreciate some feedback on whether schools have banned YouTube
or not - will be of value as we try to decide on its in-school
educational potential. At the moment the defense is being held together
by curriculum initiatives. Keith's input is more appreciated as
supportive evidence.
With Thanks
