[Year 12 Its] Using arrays in Visual Basic.Net

I have just installed visual basic.net and decided to experiment with the Melbourne Cup program which simulates a horse race, uses horse arrays, randomise and other functions. I am having great difficulty creating an array - can someone suggest an alternative to arrays or a way of managing arrays in the new program
