[Year 12 Its] Opensource networked calendars

G'day Stephen, an old thread but I thought to toss you in another e-mail.
I had another look at the Moodle calendar and we were able to easily
customise it to do what we were looking for:
http://dewey.westallsc.vic.edu.au/calendar
The change happened with the new version of Moodle that lets the global
calendar be seen outside the course without users needing to login. All I
need to do is create a course called "Teachers" then add in their meetings
as course events. After they click on the login link, bingo.. they get to
see their personal meeting dates. Same for students, a school calendar
littered with homework deadlines etc :-)

Cool, it is great that you send the developers the feature request too.
First time I have seen your calendar script program, thanks for the link and
post. :-)
Have a good break

I didn't install it. I just used the demo online. Still sticking with
calendarscript.
I sent the development group the following:
Currently using calendarscript @
http://www.cheltsec.net/calendarscript/calendar.pl
Like your calendar a lot - also like calendar script.
Like your drop down list to select category of events to display on
calendar.
What I would love is to see this drop down as a set of check boxes so that I
can choose to display any combination of event
categories on the current view (to remove the clutter of "all" but to see
clashes between various event categories. This in effect
allows mtuliple calendars to be used seperetaely or merged in any way.
The main reaso that I am staying with calendarscript at the moemt is that it
also has a well formatted list view for events. I am
sure that this is easy for your programmers.
Anyway. Thanks and well done! I will be back sometime to look again.

Great ! Only needed the events as a list for our office.
This "nearly" has the idea of selecting display from one or more calendars.
I have dropped a suggestion in their box. What talent abounds on the planet
!

This is probably better.. made the top 10 of source forge and seems simple
enough to teach the office staff and Geoff to drive.

What do you think?

Couldn't find one with the features that I wanted in freeware.
At last bought a dinosaur product in perl !!!
Works fine.... I think that is the point !!??
Needed ability to store greater detail than appears on the calendar
accessible by hyperlink.
Needed ability for staff to submit suggested events so that admin can
consider before they appear.
Needed list display as well as traditional.
Needed ability to filter events with find so that sublists could be
generated where keywords appeared.
Would have liked ability to have number of calendars separately (e.g. staff,
students, parents, reporting etc) where user clicks
checkboxes to integrate events into single calendar display (i.e. only check
reports if that is all your interested in, or check
"reports" and "staff" to see both calendars integrated and displayed
together etc etc).
See it working at http://www.cheltsec.net/calendarscript/calendar.pl

Sorry everybody. I forgot to add the link for the asp calendar that I
mentioned. I have gone cold on ASP after another sparsely
documented MS feature / upgrade messed up all the code that I had written. A
lesson we learned is that you need three calendars,
parents / staff / students. Moodle solved our student calendar, now for the
other two... Thanks Con.

I got the cue from a presentation by somebody at a past VITTA conference.
Speaking of which, the call for papers and presentations is now open!

Jeff, although Moodle comes with a php calendar, it doesn't really suit what
I am trying to do with the online parents and online
teacher calendars.
Group office below looks interesting. It is php based and I can use it to
replace the asp version that I hacked together years ago.
Could you give it a heads up and thumbs up .. don't mind if you want time to
look around.

By networked, I am assuming you mean web-based?
Here are 94 free ones:

We have used GroupOffice with success before:

Here's an online demo of its calendar app:
