An awareness of how Excel works with times (and other programs eg PHP,ASP) and an awareness that Excel does really illogical things. The 12A = 0 was the main giveaway to what it might be doing and that 11A is nearly midday (0.5).

Or maybe my mind is just warped and twisted from 7 and a half years doing IT in schools (and in industry for some years before that) and therefore able to understand warped and twisted problems...8^)
