Hi.

We have 'decentralised' staff room, so as an IT teacher I hang around my office, and let VCE AND VCAL students ONLY in to do school work only. That's most lunchtimes.

Two days a week, we 'officially' open the computer room to all for 1/2 of lunch. My mentor and I take it turns to supervise - and it counts as (one) 'yard duty' for us. We give the students (all year levels) access on these two days, and they can play games, email, myspace *sigh*, and MSN *double sigh*...we DO enourage school work though...

On wet days , we 'open' again as above...BTW, we have two rooms I can monitor from my little staff room..

The Pod's on the other hand are supervised as best they can by the teachers that have sent students in. We also encourage that students on spares, to come in and use computer rooms - if there is a spare machine, it's their's! Any MySpace, MSN, etc, in these times, means out you get. Additionally, if the lower year levels need a machine, they come in as well during IT classes, if their is spare machines, that's OK!

Finally, we also encourage other year subjects to use computer rooms! So, say, if the English teacher needs to use the computer room for her/his year 9's doing some research, and I have my Information Systems class (and they have given me a day's notice) I'll take them in to a normal class for 'theory'. They moan a bit (the students)but I point out in the exam, it's the Fred Flintstone P.C (pen & paper)they'll be using - not to mention in Uni - so get used to it!!

HTH
