A friend of mine works at one of the multi-billion dollar profit per
year banks as a system analyst.
He works collaboratively with other workers around the world.
And guess what, they use email and the telephone to communicate.

Reporting on some action research - I have just spoken with an ICT
worker who works remote (hundreds of kilometers away from the rest of
the development team) in a virtual team that develops highly
sophisticated software used around the world, costing hundreds of
thousands of dollars per client - i.e. serious stuff.
Here is a list of the tools he uses to facilitate teamwork: VPN, Remote
Desk Top, VNC (e.g. tightvnc), telephone with web-cam, CMS, Tracker
system to keep track of bugs and things needing to be done (e.g.
Tracker, bugzilla).
These could be researched further on Google, but what is above is for
real!
Cheers, Keith
