[Year 12 IPM] OT- damn those kids and the internet!!

lol - thanks for the link Brett!! I wouldn't say that Mark S or I are 'bad'=
 parents (certainly not to the point of  that nanny show or 'teen angels' on=
 TV) In fact I actually feel rather blessed and proud of my kids. We're just=
 having a gripe/comment on kids today, and I can also relate it to the kids=
 in the classes I teach (many of the girls openly admit they are 'addicted'=
 to myspace!)

This is the first generation of computer/internet kids, just as we were the=
 first generation of TV kids, and parents of the 60's - 90's despaired about=
 the amount of TV their kids watched. It's probably harder for us as now the=
re is TV AND the Internet AND games.

To Mark Scott - lol - your description conveys a perfect .jpg!!
To Mark Scott and Mark Kelly- said son finally showed me his course selectio=
n - most need enter scores above 90 - all involve IT/Business/Commerce. At l=
east he is aiming high. I guess we will re-evaluate on Dec 11 if needed.

This year is even worse.

I can't/don't/won't accept that he can study for yr 12 exams effectively
while playing a DVD through his PC which is less than two feet from his
nose and directly behind his books/notes he is "studying" from. (and on
a 19inch LCD with a 5.2 sound system in his bedroom)

and most frustrating is that he is likely to do well enough to be able
to tell me that he was right.

IPM last year, he got 38 which he was happy with. (not sure I was)

I had the same problem as you, he refused to talk to me about it all
year.

Mark - if the son does well it will all be to your credit - the only
discussions I have had with him all year re: computers and IT have gone
along the lines of ...

Me: Stop playing that damn game and do some homework

Him: I'm quite capable of playing the game, chatting and doing my
homework at the same time - it's called multitasking  ... duh!

He refused to discuss any of his answers to the IPM exam - just looking
towards the next one.

Also to your credit is that he wants to do a degree in IT (but I don't
know which one cos that's something else we don't discuss!)
