if you have access to wireless broadband areas, which is most of
Melbourne and some regional centres such as Geelong CBD and some
surrounding suburbs then you can access VOIP mobile, whether you are in
your car or anywhere else.

So I'm not confused about wireless and mobile after all !

Not out of date Zach, just not confused about wireless and mobile. VOIP
on a mobile isn't mobile, it is only as long as the string that attaches
you to a wireless network. Try making a call when you are on the road.
GSM is voice only so that's out, you could use GPRS but the charges are
excessive so it isn't an alternative.

Bit behind the times Karl?

No problem guys, if I find anything of value that I think you may be
interested in I'll keep it to myself. If it was an add I would have a
vested interest in passing the info on to you, I don't. Consider it
something along the lines of suggesting a new textbook or a reasonably
priced component supplier, both of which I have seen suggested on this
list without the knives coming out.

The first post had both the IS IP&M addresses but I believe that the
IP&M address was incorrect so I resent it with the correct one.

What on earth has VOIP got to do with a mobile? They are not
interchangeable, I don't take my desktop with me when I leave home.

Is it time to block Karl??

This is the second Advert for Optus and in my opinion amounts to Spam.

I got it once - now stop please.

Hi All, this is not a usual IP&M or IS post but I thought some of you
may not be aware of the following:

DE&T negotiated a very reasonable phone plan with OPTUS a few years ago.
The plan has changed a few times over the years (your original
conditions still apply to a plan that you took out). Currently OPTUS
are offering a SIM only plan. You pay 12 cents per 30 seconds to all
phones (mobile and fixed) within Australia. No monthly minimum spend
and no call connect charge. GST is extra making it 13.2 cents per 30
seconds.

For example: if you call a fixed line or mobile only once in your
billing cycle for 1 minute your bill for the month will be 27 cents. If
you do not use the SIM then you do not pay any monthly charges. You can
cancel at any time, there is no contract.

This is a no frills plan, there is no OPTUS free time and no extended
time on weekends but the call rate is better than you will get in most
instances.

Call 1300 550 018 for further information and tell them that you are
inquiring about the government corporate plan and that you work for
DE&T. There is nothing on paper or on the OPTUS web site so if you have
any questions ask when you phone.

There is no setup cost, you can arrange it over the phone in a couple of
minutes and they will deliver the SIM to work or home (requires proof of
identity and a signature)

You can get up to 4 SIM cards for your family if you wish.

Regards,
