Some of the rhetoric on the ultranet project description page
http://www.sofweb.vic.edu.au/blueprint/fs1/s@c.htm is a little extreme.
"It will integrate the key processes involved in the day to day running of a
school and a classroom. It will redefine the nature and purpose of all
interactions between members of the school community."
I can hardly imagine any online system "redefining the nature and purpose of
all interactions between members of the school community." Does this mean
the demise of all face-to-face classroom interaction?
Given that the classroom serves many functions within a school it is
unlikely that at least in the short term that any online system will provide
more than an additional facet to the existing educational paradigm.
Time will tell...
Rupert.
