Hi
I ran combined classes for 5 years. Admittedly they were small classes which made it easier. The main advice I would give you is to change the year 11 course around a little to fit in with the year 12's. Off the top of my head the best example of this is Outcome 3 Unit 2 is on Networking which coincides with Outcome 2 Unit 4. So I would teach Unit 2 in a 1, 3, 2 sequence (if that makes sense). There were a couple of other occasions during the year where it was possible to do this.
I also taught the heavier parts of the theory e.g gantt diagrams to both year levels at the same time. I found this to really benefit the students in year 12 when they weren't faced with the theory for the first time.
Hope this helps
