Hi Robert,
Thanks for your considered comments here. Most people mean well, but don't realise the amount of trouble caused to those on dial up accounts when sending large attachments .
Due to the difficulties of people not observing this vountary code I have had to force rejection of any mail to any list that is larger than 1 MB. If we struggle with this , it may have to be reduced further to 500KB or even lower.
Also, replying to the whole list is an unnecessary waste of bandwidth and really dilutes the quality of posts to the list. This has caused many people to unsubscribe which is sad. All we can do is keep reminding people to consider their destination email address before hitting the send button.
Keep well

As a slater of people sending large files to the list, and who used to be on a dial up connection, can I please comment.
Sending large files to everyone on the list causes two problems:
a.. those who do not want the file still have to download it, sometimes at great time cost
b.. it really is putting unnecessary traffic through the Internet (and that should be an important consideration)
So there are alternatives, as have been suggested before, such as sending to Kevork or uploading to a web site and providing the address for those who want to download.
Another issue is those who reply to the whole list when they only mean to reply to one person.
a.. Please realise that if you get a list email from "Fred" wanting information and you click on the reply button then that reply goes to the whole list.
b.. Gee! Did you really want the whole world to know that?
c.. If you want to reply to one person only then please look at the email properties and you will find the email address of the original sender.
Happy ICTing
