[Year 12 IPM] colour printers

Dear Robert

I would say that when the Potts book was written (probably 2002 for the 2003 - 2006 course) that statement was probably true. But ink jet printers - like most technologies - have improved since then. Certainly using photo quality paper and the best settings, one can get an excellent print from the latest ink jets - even a low end cheaper version. Value for money the ink jets have it all over laser, but lasers have advantages such as if the printout gets wet they don't run etc. And probably for larger runs in, say, a business environment the lasers are cheaper to run in terms of consumables.

Of course all of this is just IMHO :-)

Cheers

Subject: [Year 12 IPM] colour printers

Hi everyone,

In the Potts book pg 9, it says "The quality of the printout from a colour
laser printer is far superior to an ink-jet printer..."

What do others make of this statement?

My graphics art teachers disagree with this statement (as well as myself)
as some made the comment that the colours don't always come up correctly
on a colour laser printer (in terms of tones).
