The textbook IS currently out and available. Check with larger bookshops or contact Thomson Education: nelson at thomsonlearning.com.au (Website: www.thomsonlearning.com.au ) and they should be able to supply you a teacher reference copy. Contact Julie Durkin, Secondary Sales Rep: julie.durkin @thomsonlearning.com.au and she will be keen to help.

Other helpful tips have been provided in emails by Mark Kelly, Sack and John.

Cheers

  Short Answer: Don't Do It

I have been given the same problem and will be attempting to migrate the year 11s to the year 12 course. The year 11 students will then achieve a credit towards their year 12. If they fail they can repeat the subject again the following year without penalty.

Potts is still being printed: won't be available I don't believe till next year. I have an uncorrected proof of the text from our school supplier. You should be able to obtain such a copy from your school supplier.

There have been a number of contributions to this list recently regarding the new course design. It is basically as follows:

  Unit 3, Out 1: Databases,

Unit 3, Out 2: Web Site,

  Unit 4, Out 1: Spreadsheet,

Unit 4, Out 2: Disaster Recover, Backup and Data Management

Software tools include those that operate on any platform, eg: Mac, Win, Linux/Unix. So it all depends on what your school operates.

Also see Mark Kelly's page at www.vceit.com

  Hope this helps,

  Zach Alexakos

Subject: [Year 12 IPM] (no subject)

  Hello All,

This is my first message so I hope it works.

I have taught maths and science for years but next year I have been given a combined yr 11 and yr 12 group for IT.

I have never taught IT at yr 9 to yr12 before and I have never seen it being taught.

I have looked at the course design but it is too vague to be of much use.

The text book on the student's booklist is Potts but I have not been able to get a copy.

I have found some of the posts on this list informative but I need some advice.

What exactly am I supposed to teach - what are the students supposed to be able to do at the end of the course.

What software do they use - words like "software tools" do not seem enough for my level of ignorance.

  Help!

  Dan
