That's where realistic appraisal and reflective practices can finally be
of use.

and it won't happen if you give teachers a tool that enables them to
say; "there, we have embraced technology in our classrooms"

If they are implemented properly, with a change in teaching practice,
they can be fabulous.

My prin saw whole schools of them in the UK recently. They were the
single greatest factor in the uptake of ICT in classrooms.

Still mainly chalk and talk, but teachers were slowly changing their
practice with greater exposure to what the technology had to offer. It
just takes time to play with them and slowly develop materials for them.
If a teachers entire resource collection is based around traditional
teaching methods, it will take time to develop or adapt to new methods.
It won't happen overnight, but it won't happen at all if you don't
facilitate it.

Cameron

DON"T DO IT

They are gadgets used to foster a chalk and talk orientated classroom
(the Maths teachers love them) and to impress Principals.

Dear colleagues

There are calls from some quarters at my school to put electronic
whiteboards in as many class rooms as possible.
After the Business Manager recovered from his heart attack, he has asked
me to investigate some cheaper alternatives.
I have read about ways to convert standard whiteboards into electronic
ones by using a special type of projector or a special gadget you can
attach to a standard whiteboard. I have the brochures but ...

As anyone else used or tested such a device at their school?
If so, what are comparative results regarding performance, visibility,
ease of use etc?

Thanks for your assistance.
