I think the simpler a definition is the easier it is to understand - I like the 10th one you give - or this one from www.dictionary.com

Each year my students experience difficulty in understanding clearly
what the term "Criteria" means, in such situations as "list three
criteria that should be taken into consideration when selecting..." as
well as other exam type questions.
I have put together the attached, but would appreciate any help fellow
IP&M teachers can provide - please??
