Yep I think that's right.

Also things like if you have the hourly rate of pay for a person in one
column, and you know how many hours they work in a week in another column,
you don't need to store their weekly wage in another column because this
information can always be derived from the first two columns when you need
it.

It also covers things like when you have multiple tables in an Access
database, you wouldn't include the same field in both tables, as one of the
fields would be duplicated data and hence redundant, or not needed.

It does relate indirectly to data integrity, in the sense that if you alter
the data in one table and forget to alter it in the second table, then you
will have inaccurate data.

Doesn't it also have to do with two fields in the one table that are
essentially giving you the same information? For example, In a table, You
shouldn't need the Age field if you have an accurate D.O.B. field.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the help this list has provided throughout the year again!! Could
someone plese explain to me the meaning of 'data redundancy'? My
understanding is that it relates to loss of data and I also think it is
different to 'data integrity' but am not clear about these. It has come up
as a result of students having just completed the Insight Trial Exam paper.
