I know some schools use cert II Information technology as a basis for
measuring computer skills at year 9 or 10. I have attached a draft
curriculum for years 7 and 8 based on cert I (it's pretty basic but may
be a good place to start)

Hear, hear, Roland. Could not agree more. Our leadership team in
their wisdom reduced ICT x 2
periods per week per year back to 1 semester at both year 7 and 8 this
year. As you say students
are quite proficient in MS Powerpoint but still mainly its basics and
in MS Word. However, it has not
worked as they hoped and year 7 ICT will be back to a full time subject
across the two semesters
next year. They then incoporate the skills in their other subject
areas and have a are able to judge
the various software types that they can choose from.
