[Year 12 IPM] An Invitation to Lurkers

None of mine left early - I was outside waiting for them from 5:10pm!
However, we do have a policy that students can't leave the Year 10 and
Year 11 exams before time and I think it has carried over into Year 12
as very few, if any students leave any of the VCE Exams before time.
Maybe early training is the way to go?

Ciao for now

Yes I had a lot leave on the early side of things too.

I usually sit outside the exam and note when they leave and then
correlate this to grades. In the past I have found that it doesn't
correlate. The IPM exam seems to be written so that the slowest workers
can finish. Sometimes these slow workers are able students and sometimes
not so able.

So I wouldn't worry about when they left (although I do take it
personally and some commitment would be nice.)

In my case the 5:15 finish time lines up badly with the train timetable
and would you believe some used that as an excuse.

Anyway I think it's good that slow workers can finish (I had a very
strong student 2 years ago who during practice exams would take about 3
hours. She eventually got an A+ for the exam but was the only one to
need the full time that year.

To my horror, only three students came out of the examination room. I
gave a friendly high-five to congratulate their success but my heart
sank. The examiner caught my frantic look and gestured me over to say
that the bulk had left only just before the 5 min deadline. (phew) I had
made all sorts of hollow threats and bribes for my students to stay to
the end. Each year I wonder if I could better reinforce my examination
technique. Thank you everybody, I have made good use of all the practice
activities, websites and resources everybody.

My heart lifted afterwards when a colleague and I looked over the paper
afterwards to try and guess the dog biscuit award that Mark might dish
out. We laughed off all our problems, wished our students the best then
jointly filled the round filing cabinet with practice examinations and
notes that will never be picked up.
